Windsor Mold is looking for current Mold Makers looking to take the next step in their career to become a Mold Designer and join our Engineering team! The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in mold making. The ideal candidate will also have a strong foundation in computer operations and mold functionality.

Position: Mold Designer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Use Unigraphics NX software to develop 3D solid model tool design to manufacture plastic injection molds
  • Designs the cooling, ejection, electrical, hydraulic and mechanism activation systems for the mold
  • Co-ordinates the Hot Runner Design procurement
  • Designs to internal standards for "Design for Manufacturability" and contributes towards development of new "Lean Manufacturing" methods
  • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment
  • Position instructions and comments onto drawings
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment
  • Design scale or full-size blueprints of specialty items such as automobile body or chassis components.
  • Supervise and train other drafters, technologists, and technicians
  • Draw freehand sketches of designs, trace finished drawings onto designated paper for the reproduction of blueprints, and reproduce working drawings on copy machines

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Above average technical aptitude and knowledge of mold design
  • High standard of professionalism and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership and responsibility for one's work

  • Demonstrated trustworthiness and reliability
  • Demonstrated results-driven approach
  • Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and teamwork

Education & Experience:

  • Education in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma or Degree) considered and asset
  • Preferred experience in plastics or injection mold industry
